Steven Lowry, Board Member at Large

Completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education, Steve entered the Navy and was selected as an instructor at the Armed Forces School of Music, where he taught for six years. 
Following his discharge from the Navy, he headed the music department and was the choral director for three years at a middle school in Virginia Beach.
Returning to the Navy and receiving a commission, he served as a Surface Warfare Officer and Public Affairs Officer for the next 25 years.
He began playing the piano at age six, and the organ at 15.  Except for his five years of sea duty, he has been a church organist, soloist and choir director for almost 60 years, and also sang in several symphony orchestra choruses and community choral groups. 
Since retiring and moving to the Wilmington area in 2015, he has served as a substitute and interim organist in several local churches, and sings in a church choir. He is the accompanist for the Cape Fear Encore Chorus.
