Megan McCarthy, Soprano

Megan McCarthy, soprano, a Wisconsin native, sings with a fervor for opera, art song and music theatre. She is new to the Coastal Carolina area and teaches out of her home in Jacksonville. Over the past summer, she performed as Annina in Opera Wilmington’s production of La Traviata. Her recent achievements include being a Mid-Atlantic Regional NATS National Semi-Finalist, and winning first place at North Carolina District NATS. In 2022, Megan performed the leading role of Rose Maybud in Madison Savoyards’ production of Ruddigore. In that same year, she sang the role of Toad (First Spirit) in Opera MODO’s unique video-games-brought-to-life production: #SuperFlute (Mozart’s The Magic Flute).

During the 2019-2020 season, Megan was awarded an Artist Apprenticeship with Milwaukee Opera Theatre. Through the apprenticeship, she had the opportunity to cover the role of Rose Maybud in their production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s Ruddigore and was scheduled to cover the role of Natalya in Dave Malloy’s Preludes, before it was canceled due to COVID-19. Other roles she has performed include: Gretel (cover) in Chicago Summer Opera’s production of Hänsel und Gretel, Angelina (Plaintiff) in the Madison Savoyards production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s Trial by Jury, Servilia in the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee’s (UWM) production of Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito, and Erste Dame in International Lyric Academy’s production of Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte. In 2019, she was awarded an Honorable Mention at the Thursday Musical Competition. Megan received her Master’s degree from UWM where she was awarded a Graduate Teaching Assistantship.

Megan’s other performance credits include an art song recital, Songs of Youth, during the Mineral Point Chamber Music Festival, opera scenes where she sang Héro in Hector Berlioz’s Béatrice et Bénédict at Up North Vocal Institute, the Wedding Singer (Jenny) in Steven Sondheim’s Company at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse and performed selections from Fauré’s Requiem as the soprano soloist for the La Crosse Concert Band.

Currently, Megan is auditioning for various artist programs, opera houses and competitions. In addition to singing, Megan ‘s other great passions are yoga, reading, and spending time with family, friends and her two dogs, Callie and Moon.
